Delta-8: The IDEAL HIGH

Delta 8 High
Is Delta-8 the future of hemp?

What is a Delta 8 high?

Did you know that there are several compounds beyond the obvious THC and CBD cannabinoids that play a role in the effects of cannabis? These are the most abundant and produce the strongest psychotropic effects.  There are cannabinoids growing in popularity to consider when choosing your ideal high, the latest being Delta-8.

Delta-8 is just one of more than 100 cannabinoids in cannabis. It exists naturally in small percentages within flower trichomes and just like Delta 9 THC, is extracted into concentrate. It interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system- specifically the CB1 receptor of the nervous system. The molecular makeup is quite similar to that of Delta-9 THC, but even the slightest difference is important when referencing subatomic particles.

To make things clear and simple, it all boils down to a chemical bond: Delta-9 has a double bond on the 9th carbon in the chain, Delta-8 on the 8th. The takeaway? A double bond is going to have more electrons than single carbon bonds and will interact differently with the endocannabinoid system.

Why Delta-8?

Delta-9 THC is no exception to the phrase “too much of something can be a bad thing”. While incredibly popular, it can be a bit too intense for some. Anxiety, paranoia, or dizziness are common side effects of too much Delta-9. Modern cannabis is stronger than ever!

Many cannabis consumers are looking for a  less potent cannabinoid, enter the Delta 8 high. Truthfully, both will get you stoned, but the latter is about half as potent.  Delta 8 high is a smoother, less psychoactive experience with additional medicinal effects! Talk about a win-win.

A specific law this August added Delta-8 to the DEA’s list of controlled substances. The law specified that if Delta-8 is sourced from Cannabis Sativa, it is illegal. On the contrary, if the Delta-8 is hemp-derived, it’s legal.  This is thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill, which clearly defines hemp as cannabinoids and products with a Delta-9 THC level below 0.3 percent as legal. Many companies, uncomfortable with the minute distinction, have chosen to either step back from the production of Delta-8 or to jump ahead of the game, awaiting the final clarification.

Our opinion? Although we don’t foresee a ban of Delta-8 happening anytime soon, it might be better to secure your Delta-8 THC sooner than later.

So, lucky for you, we’re ahead of the crowd. Check out our  Delta-8 in flower, distillate, gummies, prerolls, and caramels!
